I'm not particularly sure about him going, but the hospital didn't seem to have any problems with him, and it wasn't work that was stressing him out in the first place. That said, Mum made sure he was packed off with every medication in the house. He even has two of those... red... spray-bottle-things :|

Normally this situation would call for chocolate, bombay mix, spgahetti bolognese and the Apprentice, but since it's finished... we'll probably be in with a film tonight :D

In unrelated news...
So here it is as I've heard it.

Ian was initially being positive about the whole thing and, as far as we were being told, he was taking this week off while things were bad with Mike, and coming back to direct at some point. However, the whole thing was very vague, and, as far as we could tell, we were likely not going to have our director back for a much of the rehearsal procress.

The replacement? Graham. Who was pretty much letting the power go to his head.

After a DIRE rehearsal on Monday, which I've already discussed, and the information coming through that Mike probably has weeks at the most left, having our director at all would be OUT OF THE QUESTION - understandably, all his time would be with her. A meeting was called for tomorrow morning, at which my parents were expected to attend, but because they are away this weekend, they can't make it. So I was expected to go as their representative and say what I needed to say.

I mentioned this to Graham, because this was a meeting of the management team, and since I've no job to conflict with performance, I have the time to stage-manage - a legitimate exuse for my presence, since he seemed unwilling to accept that I was going in my father's place. When I gave him this one, he said.

"Well. It's not certain that you'll be doing stage management yet."

...to which my response was a somewhat miffed 'Um. Why?" since Mum's been pushing for me to do this since last year, against my wishes.

...Graham's response?

"...it seems likely that we'll have to reshuffle positions within the management team. And since we will be discussing your position in particular, we would rather you not be present."

"...what do you mean?"

"*lowering his voice* We're planning to make you assistant director - obviously you couldn't do this and stage-manage at the same time."

...

wait, WHAT?

I don't actually have a problem with this. Part of me is a little wary that he might have just been saying this to get me out of his hair, but Mandy confirmed it on the way home - and gave me her full support. It was also a little odd that Graham was willing to say this, since... well, to be honest, his foray into direction took him on a bit of a power trip. So, while I'm a little uncertain, if they DO let me take this position, I'd be more than happy to do it.

One of the defenses I was going to bring to the table, had I attended the meeting, was that I've known this play since Dad first wrote it. And BECAUSE Dad wrote it, I can get a good read on what was going on in his head when he did write it - today I was clearing MASSIVE confusions in plot and staging because suddenly, a year later, things didn't make sense to anyone that did before. And because I can talk to Dad at home about it, I can get his ideas much easier.

The downsides - I'm co-directing with Doris, who is somewhat deaf, so discussions will be interesting, and I may not have a good deal of contribution over stuff. I may also not be able to act or sing :|

But. I would feel comfortable if I got involved in the direction process.

Today's rehearsal was awesome, though, mainly because I was reading Mum's part. I had to take on one of her songs, which was a duet with her husband Alan - played by Andy - and I really enjoyed it. The song we were doing was... very simple, somewhat low in my range, but once I let go of the script (...I knew the words anyway...) I was able to actually act it. There was shoving and yelling into one anothers faces and it was fun :3 I get to run through the entire play tomorrow, and I know I'll be hampered with a script, but I'm going to give it my best shot. Provided I don't get benched for direction tomorrow.

Anyway. I think I'll know by then: the management meeting is at 10, and rehearsal is at 2, so I should know either by phone, or by mouth. Wish me luck :)

I've had bad rehearsals with Steel Valley Beacon, but this was probably the worst. What makes it bad is I'M going to have to be the person to haul everyone up on it, because everyone else will be like, 'Oh, well, yeah, you shouldn't do that..."

We started out by breaking up to 'figure out what our characters feel'. First mistake. We've done this production before. The majority of us spent more than half of last year learning lines and vocal parts, and we should really be taking the role of supporting those who HAVEN'T had the experience we have through the production, and allowing them to speak their parts in context. Splitting the group will, in most cases, NOT give the actor the interaction he needs to rehearse the scene.

Part of this support is for the rest of the cast to be disciplined onstage, and that didn't happen tonight. Background action needs to remain background action; offstage conversations shouldn't be brought into onstage speech. Every person involved in this production is important - you may not have a speaking part in the production, and it is natural to feel the need to do SOMETHING. But you are still equally as important as any of the speaking characters. Smooth stage action is needed to keep the momentum going - this is important in performance, but moreso in the rehearsal process.

A point was raised tonight about mistakes - the general gist being 'forget it and move on'. We're in rehearsals, yes, but we have three weeks to pull this production together, and if we stop and laugh at small mistakes, the rehearsals will become shambolic, and they'll be of no help to any of the actors, in particular those who have come in to take parts. They, as well as the other actors, need to be treated with respect.

There were good parts of tonight's rehearsal, and these were when we buckled down as a group and got to it. We can't interrupt with mistakes, we can't second guess any actions. It is important at this point to get through the script with as few mistakes as possible. Knowing what you're doing BEFORE you get onstage will prevent awkward interruptions and breaking up of the scene. Talk to the people you will be acting with. Decide together what you're going to do.

Regarding music - Helen will not be at every single rehearsal, and neither will the band, and things tend to fall apart when we don't have back-up. I can lead and time you; and I do try to when we have no support - if necessary I'll get up in front of you and wave my arms around if it helps. But at this stage, with the performance so close, we need to use the harmony CDs we have been given; and learn our parts. It doesn't have to be perfect, but we need to at least have do preparation: our first performance will be in three weeks. I understand you all have busy lives, but the parts need to be practiced. If you rely solely on Helen's sessions, all you'll have ahead of the opening night will be six hours of vocal practise, and they will all be covering different songs. You cannot wait to 'get it right in the next rehearsal' - THERE WILL NOT BE ONE.

At this late stage, it is also important for the people who are doing minor things to show up. They are small, but they make a difference. We cannot practise a number of the songs WITHOUT the additional numbers and, yes, I am talking Miners and Police here...

URGH. The thing is, it's not pleasant. It will not be pleasant. But it needs to be said, because people are too damn wishy-washy :|

...I'm so bored, it isn't funny. I appear to have joined the ranks of those who have so little to do, they've resorted to tidying their rooms. And I have SO much junk, that I don't particularly want to throw away, but don't want hanging around my room, either. I found a few doujinshi I thought I'd lost, and the Lavi print that the seller gave me. Need to find somewhere to put that...

I've done some selective paring-down of some of my drawers. Well. That only really happenned with my corner drawers... I cleared out LOADS of candles and incense sticks, most of them half-burnt, though my quarter candles were pretty much melted to nothing. My quarter bowls have a new home, which was recently vacated by my crystals. When I get my stuff back from Newcastle, my cards and runes are going into the box where my MBS rune flashcards are.

I really miss MBS :S I kind of with they'd bring it back like some of the others, because I never got the second issue... so I was about six cards short of the first deck... I think it was a Ryder-Waite deck? Then they started with a new deck and, yes, I get that it's to get people to keep buying, but it was a really, really nice deck that had choices for some of the cards, so you could pick whichever you liked. Like, there was a traditional "Death" skeleton holding a scythe, or... I've got it somewhere, but I think it was a girl holding a banner or something...

If they started releasing it again, I would totally subscribe. I should have begged Mum for a subscription then and had done with it. There was some great stuff in there.

Anyway, yes. Part of my room-tidying is to make it... easier to journal. This video inspired me to make something more of my journal, and so I'm sorting out my drawers. I don't want to STOP having a diary with me all the time, because if I didn't I don't know WHAT I'd do if I got bored. But my journalling has been really scattered lately... a little bit of text in my journal, the occasional bit of REAL writing, and most of my artistic endeavours are going in my Moleskine. I don't want that. I want a great big book with everything in it. Fuck portability. I'll just get a journal with perforated pages, or something, that I can stick into the big one.

Mika from Asylum requested an Allen plushie (v1... I was going to attempt the third version outfit just released but I thought that would probably be best for me to do separately), which I'm in the process of making - he's sat on my desk stark naked at the moment, and I've been taking my sweet time doing it. I lost my templates (...they turned up in the back of my diary about an hour ago...) so I kind of traced him out blind. He's a little skinny, but he'll be getting clothes soon. Some basic sketches of his outfit ended up in my journal. I don't know HOW I managed to make it look like a corset but... well, I managed it. I'll be sewing trousers and boots tonight, I think. MIGHT be making the coat tomorrow. But there's no way I'm making a to-scale Timcanpy to go with it. The coat already exploded my brain - if I thought the details on Lavi's were bad, this one might do it. I also... kind of want to make a Kanda. Though half way through his coat I might want to commit suicide, even though it's not nearly as bad as the others'.

She says, hopefully.

Nin also joked about me making a Firo plushie - characters ended up making plushies together in Briar, god rest it *sombre moment* - but I'm actually going to do it. He might be hatless... Then again, I've managed hats quite well before. Aside from them being a little... squishy.
My playlist is currently alternating between Nick Cave and Emilie Autumn. Good stuff, Itunes. I love you :D

Ooh, Vienna Teng. That's good.

I'm still waiting to hear back from Towsure, but otherwise, I'm lining up other places to apply for. Particularly jobs that say "flexibility essential". I have the trial version and I love it - I'm seriously considering asking around to see if anyone wants to split a subscription with me (cover three computers with one subscription? £38 for a year? *beam*)

I mean, yes, it's taking its sweet time to do a scan (0% and counting), but it picked out and blitzed a Trojan virus before it even started the scan, and another one seconds into the scan.

So yup. I'm considering a subscription, once the trial runs out.

We got Chloe to watch the first episode of Junjou Romantica (lol) before we watched Sweeney, and Trev got lost despite my PERFECT directons. By which time Sweeney Todd was almost over, and we moved on to marathoning Ouran in no paticular order, and I fed everyone what turned out to be babequeued vegetarian sausages (touch my food, feel my fork, bitches XD)

Then my parents came home (sodding input is fucked up again: "My parnets came homohomo side characters :3") and started making weird comments ("Did they just say 'cheerio?'"
o_O

So I was woken up at twelve by my phone ringing. Towsure asking if I could come in for an interview - I ended up scheduling one for TODAY. Nothing wrong with that, I was just left sat on my bed like, "what the hell just happened?"

I got up, found some clothes - most of which were Mum's and slightly big but what the heck - and got to the interview. It went quite well, but they have a lot of applicants for two positions. Oh well, I'm sure I'll be OK.

Tomorrow we're braiding Ticho's hair, and I'm going to try facebook one more time because my messages don't appear to be sending. Stupid temperamental internet -_-

Edit: Gargh.

The dishwasher's broken. That doesn't mean that we're going to do the washing up as a group, or that we should each take responsibility for our own stuff. It means Matt and I must do it. Together.

-_- He gets irked by, and defensive about, the tiniest things, and a discussion with him will always, ALWAYS turn into an argument, because he cannot be wrong. Ever. ("Helena, stop dripping water onto the dry stuff." "I just washed it. It's not dry!" "Well, YOU wouldn't like it if *I* did that!" "...it's not a big deal, actually." "You'd get pissed off about it." "...no, you THINK I'd get pissed off about it." "Because you would. It's be an invasion of your personal space...")

He would NOT let it go. I wanted to frikking clobber him over the head with a plate (<s>How the hell is water dripping on dishes an invasion of personal space, but barging into my room for hours at a time is NOT?</s>). I mean, yes, I have an occasionally short fuse myself. But he holds onto things and then claims HE isn't the one being petty. He was getting pissed off because he thought it would mean more work for him. I have no problem with housework, even when I'm back for the odd weekend and technically NOT living here, but God forbid Matthew should do any. He has a grand total of ONE job to do in the house, which he never did in the first place, and just watch - I'll be the one doing all of the washing up after dinner in a week's time, maybe less -_-

Back from the wilderness.

So my last entry was pretty much an "OMGIhavetogetthesephotosupbecausedadwillprobablywanttotakeloadsofseagullsandimanimateobjectslikehillswhilewe'reaway" post of feltie photos... and because I was trying to pack for camping AND post them at the same time, I didn't get to try to fix it so it wouldn't fuck with peoples layouts. If it did, I apologise.

Camping was good. There wasn't as much hiking as I thought there would be, but we walked to the next village yesterday and that was unpleasant. I wouldn't have minded it so much it just being hills, but they were hills with sort-of-steps in them. Really, REALLY steep ones. And I've been scared of stairs since last summer, so I was pretty much e-d-g-i-n-g my way down them like a coward.

The FIRST night, we arrived at the campsite, and it was all set up since everyone else had been there since Wednesday. The boys had set up a fire, and were trying to match each other Guinness can for Guinness can - Ryan and Josh got through six each, before they got the spirits out, and Josh, realising my glass was empty, handed me a rum and coke that was.... a quarter of a bottle of rum, and very little coke.

...of course I drank it.

Saturday was the walk up to Staithes where we had ice cream, and bought the weirdest sandwiches in the world - I got one that was 'Goats Cheese, Honey and Walnut', but they also had 'Banana, Peanut Butter and *other mystery ingredient*' on the menu. The three of us wandered around the village, since we didn't fancy getting sandy, and watched the boys crabbing for a while. Sadly they weren't big enough to eat! Since we, and a couple of others, were in charge of food for the evening, we had to go to Whitby to do the shopping (we left our box full of food for the barbeque in the middle of the kitchen floor and will probably be eating it all this week, provided it passes an assessment :3 ) for all forty of our group. With a half hour on the parking meter. We managed it in twenty minutes.

We ate at the campsite, and all went down to the beach where we set up a fire. A group had gone down in the morning to check out the tideline, but they got it WRONG, because by one in the morning, it had reached the improvised bench - which meant we had to make a mass exodus BACK to the camp site. We still got a good four, five hours out of it, though, and everyone who wanted to steal Dad's guitar for a set got to. The method of getting down? about fifteen of us PILED into Dan's pick up truck - plus one guy on the roof and another in the cab - along with the chairs and a fair amount of the firewood ("HEY!" "WHAT?" "IS THIS LEGAL?" "...PROBABLY NOT - WHO CARES?!". Ryan was crushed, and someone else was hanging out of the side.

...and then the back popped open.

And this morning... it THREW it down. I helped pack up and stuff, but was ordered into the car when the gazebo was taken down. Since my hoodie would get soaked -_-

...with two vests, two teeshirts, and a hoodie on, I wasn't too cold, but being wet wouldn't have been nice...

But I'm back now :D Three cheers for civilisation. May I NEVER go camping again!

(says the person who just applied for a Saturday job at the camping store...)

Mmmmmmm.

University is over. It's a strange feeling. Nice, but strange. It doesn't FEEL like the end of a school year's supposed to feel... I suppose with people slooowly petering out as they finish their exams and go home.

I wish my phone camera worked - that way I could show you my teetering pile of junk that I need to take home. It's listing slightly to the left. Oh well. If it falls over in the middle of the night I'll be secure in the knowledge that I'll wake everyone, when it lands on my legs :|

Having said that. THere's a lot more still for me to pack up. I still have some clothes in the wardrobe, but it's mostly empty (phew), I need to figure out how I'm transporting my hairdryer and straighteners home... and despite mmy careful packing, I'll still have a stack of books because, surprisingly, they're heavy things and I'm not planning on dragging all of THOSE to the station. as well as my backpack. And a guitar.

...I'll be aching tomorrow afternoon :3

I have FAR too many books in this room. I brought a lot in the first place, then there were all the books I got for my course, and some I got to read for fun... and never got around to. I'm thinking of taking Soseki's "I am a Cat" to read on the train...

So the exam. I won't say it could have gone better, because it didn't go BADLY. I might have approached the commentary the wrong way, but I got some good points in there, and I knew The Wanderer and The Seafarer quite well, so I could comment on them. THe good thing about that exam was that we had extracts to work from in the first question - I did sort of blag my way through the Dream of the Rood - but they were a good starting place. The bad thing was that there was only an extract from the Seafarer - not the Wanderer. But I wrote a fair bit, so I can't complain. Some people left early. Like, Seb finished an hour into the exam? An hour and fifteen minutes? Either he's a ridiculously fast writer, or his work wasn't detailed. Oh well. That's his problem.

I think I've passed this year. I don't think I've done THAT awfully, and my overall grade for the year was a high second, maybe a 2:1 - at least in English. I'll survive, I think. And there are always resits...

I say kill ‘em off while we have the chance.</strike> Really, negative. But yeah, most of the ones that do it are insufferable anyway.
SPICE GIRLS: …there used to be three of us in the playground – usually me, Adam Croft, and probably Olivia – when we were about eight, nine. We didn’t do the dances, we just did the singing. Adam was always Posh. I think I was always Scary because my parents were from Leeds (…via Calcutta…) (skewed logic), and I think Olivia was always Ginger because… she was a redhead. I was the only one who COULD sing -_-

I’m amused that they finished up as quickly as they did.
SEX BEFORE MARRIAGE: Entirely for it. The whole wedlock thing was instituted by the Church anyway, and that was only because they thought women were disgusting creatures, and they discouraged it as much as possible: “no sex if your wife is pregnant, nursing, or on her period, no sex if it’s lent, Advent, a Sunday, Easter, Whitsun, Friday, Wednesday, a Fast Day, Saturday, a Feast Day, Daylight, no sex if you’re naked or in a church.” (thank you, Inside the Medieval Mind)
GEORGE BUSH: The Great Fuck-Up.
DOWNLOADING MUSIC ILLEGALLY: I don’t have a problem with it, though I understand that the artists need to be supported. However, I don’t listen to most chart music, songs from the radio only catch my attention every once in a while. Most of the music I listen to is hard to get a hold of through most channels, and so downloading is the only way to go about it. *shrug*

I did this yesterday but gave up trying to post it when LJ was being a bitch :(

Also? I just finished the Jack Sparrow feltie I started yesterday (pretty much... all he needs is his coat, but we'll see...)

I don't have an obsession. No, not at all.

Exorcist coat in miniature = bitch. I've done as much of the detailing as I can for now but some things are hard then others. Like the cuffs. I had to resort to white fabric paint. Surprisingly, I've managed to do some of the little buttons... but I still need to cut out the sides properly and put the white lines on those.

The question, though, is open or closed? Closed means less work, and I don't have to go hunt for dark green felt tomorrow, but open means I could probably take a crack at making the bandanna to see if it works... I did the hair whilst NOT planning on doing the bandanna, but it could always go around his neck. But the scarf's already there - which, by the way, looks as awesome as a piece of felt can look.

This is because I'm taking a night off from revision.

She says.

EDIT: ...didn't bother with green felt, would have been too fiddly. The coat's about done - need to put some more white accents on it, and once I've done some boots it'll be sorted :D

Pictures when I get home. I'm damn proud of this one...

...and debating making a Kanda...

...I'll amass a plushie army over the summer, I'm sure...

EDIT: (00:50) Finished. I'm not big on the coat, because I liked how it looked when it was really long and plain. But it's removable - well, I hope it still is since I've added the shirt - so... yeah. 83

Okay, today - aside from the exam part - was good. And since that was at nine, I had the rest of the day to make up for it. The exam was hell, and I don't particularly want to dwell on THAT. Let's just say not having a place set up, and the exam, when I finally got it, having an error in it (Dr Phillippo had to come around and tell us individually -_-) pretty much set up how it was going to play out.

We all went for drinks afterwards to comiserate... and just sat around on the grass outside the theatre with them. The weather was good, I had some money from my lovely mother, and the union had a barbequeue going, so burgers for all (...That's a first. Burger and a Diesel for breakfast.)

We ended up going to see Indiana Jones. Jess and Catherine had been planning to go, we ended up included in the plans, but Catherine's sister came over and she didn't particularly want to go, so we lost her :( and I met Sam GOING to the cinema as I was coming back from it. We got the times, and wandered around the Gate for a while, then went in. Turns out Jess is a MAJOR Indie fan. Myself, not so much, but I enjoyed the film. Particularly the start, which was recieved with an unexpected 'YAAAAY!' followed by a 'WHOOOO!' from Jess, and someone else declaring their undying love.

...and the film ended with a group chorus of the Indiana Jones theme. This is the ENTIRE cinema, not just us.

...thing is, I screwed up, because I needed to get some food from the market. Which was shutting up by the time I got there, so I took a detour and went to the coop which, for some reason, is in the entertainment district. Spent twice as much as I would have at the market *weep*

So for now, I'm done. My next exam is on Tuesday, which is Selected Texts. I know I'm NOT writing about Lot 49, short of mentioning it briefly for comparisons of pastiche, which means I've got a book a day to read. I also need to get through the set passages for MediLit, which is on Wednesday.

...but I'm SO glad Greek is done. I'm not holding out much hope, mind you, but at least it's over.

All right. It's been nice to have long (LONG) hair for the past year or so, but I'm getting tired of it now. It's hard work. I have LOTS of it, and it gets pretty damn hot underneath it. When I get hot, I get stressed. When I gets stressed, I get unhappy and annoyed at the tiny things.

...this is all because of my hair.

SO. First chance I get, I'm getting it lopped off. A whole half metre of it. If not the first chance I get, definitely before we go to Greece.

And then.

I shall dye it deep blue.

...that kind of depends on what the sun does to it, but at the moment, that's the plan.

I'm back in Newcastle tomorrow :O My train leaves Sheffield at 8:25, but since this meant leaving the house ridiculously early and my parents - Mum, rather - being stuck in town ahead of work with nothing to do, she kinda thought fuck that. It takes an HOUR for the train to get to Doncaster for my connection (rather than half an hour/twenty minutes for a direct route to Newcastle), and it makes much more sense to go directly to Doncaster by car, since that's Mum's district, and catch the train from there. I get to leave an hour later - the same time I left this morning - so I don't have to mess with my alarms or anything. I just have to GET UP :p

The thing is, now, I have to be selective with my packing. I need enough clothes for a week, my laptop, and my books. Hmm. I also have a slightly bigger suitcase, which I'll be jamming full with as much stuff as I can bring BACK with me next week.

Then it's over.

Then it's camping with the Aitkens. And then it's REALLY over.

I got an email message from accommodation services last week saying that one of my flatmates, Polly, wanted to get in touch. I looked her up on facebook and sent her a message.

...the response I got back? Essentially, "Sorry, I'm not going to be in Ricky Road next year: I've just got some accommodation sorted with some friends..."

Hmm. So flatmate the third remains faceless and nameless, and we could possibly have an empty room :| Probably not, since the Uni will want to use as many of the rooms as possible, but still...
